Lee Roy Selmon's history combines family football scholarship with volunteerism in the community. First of all Selmon was raised by Lucious Semon and his wife Jessie. They lived on a farm near Eufala within Oklahoma as the eldest of the nine children they had. He played second in football and was one of three brothers who were players for Oklahoma. All three became All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award and the Lombardi Award for being the top lineman in America. Lee Roy won two championships, and 31-1-1 during his three years as Oklahoma's starter. The third scholarship was awarded to him. He was an National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon obtained his degree in education. Fourth-year service in the university Lee Roy devoted ten hours per week to volunteer projects. Then he settled in Tampa after graduation, and played with the Buccaneers for nine years and made three times all-pro. The business venture he started began. He was hired in 1988 as an Account Relations officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also a part of the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder that the Junior Chamber of Commerce designated Lee Roy as one of the 10 most notable young people in America. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and stood at a height of 7-foot-2. In his time at college, he commanded the 1975 team. In 1993, he was named associate director of the University of South Florida. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988. He was also named to the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded its Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor that presented the award.
