Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaking. Feminist Frequency was founded by Sarkeesian. It hosts video clips featuring commentary and analysis of the depictions of women in contemporary culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. Feminist Frequency is an educational non-profit website that examines female representations in the popular media narratives. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes of women that have been portrayed in popular culture, she seeks to bring attention to harassment targeted at women as well as other classes of the Internet space. Sarkeesian is also a graduate of York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. Alongside being an acclaimed public speaker, she has given presentations at TEDxWomen conference and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Since her early years she was intrigued with gender issues as well as feminist ideas. When she was still in school, in 2009 she started her Feminist Frequency website. Someone who hoped to create a web series that examined the gender-based representation in video games was targeted in an internet-based campaign. The attack did not stop her, rather it strengthened her determination as feminist media critic. Her notable contributions to the field of feminists were recognized by a variety of awards. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award award-winning media journalist. She was also the director and founder of Feminist Frequency a nonprofit educational group that focuses on pop-culture gender representations.
